Golden Grass

Golden grass (Vetiver zizanoids), known locally as "Kaincha" is a wild grass found in many parts of the district and other areas of the state. It grows to a height of about 5-6 feet and the inflorescent stick, which appears after the monsoon. Golden Grass is the stem of a read that groves in swamps and marshes and then seasoned under the sun. The stems are woven into beautiful box boxes, baskets and mats etc. often in combination of other material & vegetable dyes.Now-a-days the golden grass is making waves and more and more city dwellers are discovering the beauty of golden grass product as the products are eco-friendly , biodegradable and reduce the use of plastic .Jajang & Barua of Kendrapara, Gadamadhupur of Jajpur, Japanga of Sundergarh and Gop in Puri district are famous for golden grass craft.
